The Following Is A Sample Kenya Photo Safari

Join Michael on an exclusive 11 day luxury, 5 Star Photographic Safari that takes in three of Kenya’s most famous and photographically productive destinations including Amboseli, Samburu and the Masai Mara. Just eight guests and one photography tutor with private charter plane, exclusive use vehicles and the very best guides to ensure the ultimate photographic experience.

Kenya in March is ideal because it is not peak season thus we avoid the crowds. It also heralds lush green landscapes due to the short rains and the sky above will offer you clean air, sunny days and afternoon thunder storms with dark clouds rolling in on vast horizons.

Expect to photograph the elephants at Amboseli with Mount Kilimanjaro as your backdrop, plus its other resident wildlife. In Samburu the ecosystem offers unique northern species of animals only found in this area including Gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Gevy’s Zebra and Beisa oryx. You may also capture the elusive leopard, the rare striped hyena, civet cat and African wild dog. Another highlight is Saruni Samburu’s new elephant hide giving you eye level safe access to capture the beauty of these creatures. Plus of course the colourful Samburu people will be with us sharing stories, cultural traditions and outstanding photographic opportunities.

The finale to our Kenya safari is the famous Masai Mara. Maasai guides will help us capture the incredible diversity of animals and landscapes. Most famous for its excellent lion and cheetah photography, the Masai Mara also boasts over 500 bird species from five species of vultures, the tawny, bateleur, fish and snake eagles, saddlebilled storks, grey crowned cranes, the colourful lilac breasted rollers to ox-peckers, bush shrikes and many more.

This is an exclusive small group photographic safari with a maximum of 8 guests travelling in two vehicles, affording ample space in the vehicle for camera equipment and unobscured viewing. There is ample time to photograph landscapes, wildlife and culture. Well-priced, this trip is sure to become a regular on the WildNature Photo Expedition calendar!

Itinerary (sample)

Day 1

House of Waine, Nairobi

Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place and although it has developed a reputation which keeps tourist visits brief there are some fascinating attractions: its café culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum and most notably just 20 minutes from the city centre wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve.

Day 2-4

Tortilis Camp Amboseli, Amboseli National Park

The landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the snow cap of Mount Kilimanjaro, open plains, acacia woodland, swamps and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. Renowned for its excellent Masaai giraffe, elephant, lion and cheetah viewing and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya most popular parks. The birding is excellent especially near the lakes and swamps.

The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species. Other attraction of the park includes opportunities to meet the Maasai people and also offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Day 4-7

Saruni Samburu, Samburu National Reserve

Samburu is remote, hot and arid with rugged hills and undulating plains. And like most wildlife areas in such environments Samburu’s life blood is the Ewaso Ngiro River, and its riverine forests, which forms its boundary with the Buffalo Springs National Park. This is one of the few areas in Kenya where you can spot southern and northern dwelling species together with highlights being reticulated giraffe, the long necked gerenuk, Somali ostrich and Grevy's Zebra. Samburu was one of the homes of Elsa the Lioness, star of the bestselling book and award winning movie Born Free.

Day 7-11

Elephant Pepper Camp Masai Mara, Mara North Conservancy

Mara North Conservancy is a beautiful private wilderness area of more than 74,000 acres. It is home to a spectacular array of plants, reptiles, birds and mammals; including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and large concentrations of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other migratory wildlife. Leopard Gorge, in the heart of the conservancy, is famous as the setting of countless BBC Big Cat Diaries and National Geographic documentaries. Bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the conservancy is vital for sustaining the famous Serengeti wildebeest migrations and the highly threatened African wild dog and black rhino.

Overview

This is the ultimate luxury photographic safari to Kenya with time in three beautiful locations. A night in Nairobi will see you gather as a group and enjoy a dinner briefing. Next day you head off to the airport and from here everything is in private charter aircraft, a Cessna 208 which gives you space and 20 kilograms luggage allowance! Fly to first stop, Amboseli National Park with Mount Kilimanjaro as your backdrop. Two nights here to capture that iconic image of the Mountain as your backdrop and wildlife in the foreground. Then it's off to Samburu for three nights. This mountainous region is famous for its beauty and culture. Meet local Samburu tribes, learn their culture, head into the bush with them as your guide, meet camel herders, game drive and much more. The finale to any decent Kenya safari has to be the Masai Mara. Enjoy four nights here in a private reserve which means you get off road day and night to spend time in the savannah landscape capturing images of its residents including the big cats. All the while Michael Snedic will be accompanying you and providing guidance throughout.

We hope you like the itinerary and look forward to welcoming you along. There are just 8 places, so be quick and reserve your seat.

Kenya

Resting in the magnificent Great Rift Valley and presided over by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Kenya is characterised by hauntingly beautiful natural landscapes of forested hills, patchwork farms, wooded savanna and vast forests brimming with an extraordinary abundance of wildlife.

The nation’s diverse range of traditional African cultures is influenced by over 70 unique ethnic groups from the Maasai, Samburu, Kikuyu, and Turkana tribes to the Arabs and Indians that settled on the coast. Add to this: an exquisite tropical coastline fringed with breathtaking golden sand beaches; gorgeous coral gardens providing excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities; and a slew of lively beach resorts, and it is easy to see why so many visitors flock here from around the world to experience a truly unique African adventure in one of the world’s most pristine safari destinations.
