ONLY A FEW SPOTS LEFT!
About Carnarvon Gorge
Hidden in the Central Highlands of Queensland, some 730kms northwest of Brisbane, Carnarvon Gorge is an oasis in the middle of a semi-arid landscape. It features vibrantly coloured side-gorges, Aboriginal Art, and massive white sandstone cliffs. Remnant rainforest flourishes in the side-gorges, while ancient cycads, a variety of ferns, eucalyptus trees, flowering shrubs and the endemic Carnarvon Fan Palms line the main gorge.
Carnarvon Gorge also features an amazing array of flora and fauna, including 173 different bird species!
Aboriginal rock art hangs over the sandstone walls. Freehand paintings, ochre stencils and rock engravings are easily seen from the platform and are some of the best examples of Aboriginal Rock Art in Australia.

Day 1 (L,D)
You will be picked up late morning in an air conditioned bus by Michael and Damian, from your Brisbane location (exact location to be confirmed). We will have lunch on the way to our destination in Chinchilla, with wildlife and landscape photography stops on the way.
Our first night's accommodation will be at the Chinchilla Motor Inn
Day 2 (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we will head for Carnarvon Gorge. There will be various photographic stops on the way and we should arrive at Takarakka Bush Retreat in the early afternoon.
Once you have settled in to your accommodation, we will explore the local surrounds with our cameras. This will include looking for platypus near sunset and other wildlife such as echidnas, wallabies and numerous birds.
Day 3 (B,L,D)
After an early breakfast, we will head out to The Art Gallery and Ward's Canyon for some photography. There are plenty of photographic subjects along the way, too! Back for lunch, then we will venture out to the photogenic Mickey Creek Gorge and Warrumbah Gorge.
You will have time to relax later in the afternoon. After dinner, we will do some spotlighting for the many nocturnal animals that frequent the area.
Day 4 (B,L,D)
This morning we will head out bright and early for some bird photography around the retreat, to try and capture some of the myriad of birds found at Carnarvon Gorge. Back for breakfast, then it's we will break into two groups. One group will hike the steep climb to Boolimbah Bluff, where you will be able to photograph the view from the very top of the bluff, overlooking the incredibly beautiful expanse of Carnarvon Gorge. The second group will walk along some of the flatter, easier trails in the area.
After lunch we will visit the Ampitheatre and the Moss Gardens, two of the most amazing locations in Carnarvon Gorge.
After dinner, we will drive to a location on the rim of the gorge, where we will do some astro photography
Day 5 (B,L,D)
Today, we will visit Baloon Cave and the Devil's Sign Post. There will also be another bird and wildlife photography session.
Being our last full day at Carnarvon, Michael and Damian will also take participants back to some places photographers wish to revisit.
Day 6 (B,L,D)
After breakfast and packing up, we will drive to Nuga Nuga National Park, which is on the way out of the gorge. There is a lake there with dead trees protruding from it, with a mountain backdrop. An absolute must for photography!
There will also be other photography stops on the way to Chinchilla, with lunch 'on the road'.
We will arrive in Chinchilla late afternoon, staying at the Chinchilla Motor Inn.
Day 7 (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we leave for Brisbane with various photography stops along the way.
Our arrival into Brisbane should be around mid afternoon, where the workshop will officially come to an end.
